Preemptive Rights are rights which are held by current shareholders of a company, exercised prior to the issuance of new shares (and thus dilution of issued and outstanding shares), which allow the shareholders to purchase a portion of the newly issued shares in order to maintain such shareholder’s percentage of equity interest in the company.
