Independent Contractor

An Independent Contractor performs services for a company in exchange for compensation but is not an employee. Because they are not considered employees, independent contractors are free to choose how the work is performed. The company does not provide any tools, training, or benefits to the independent contractor. It is possible in some states for an independent contractor to be considered an employee based on a variety of factors used to determine their status.
