Capital Gains Tax is a tax imposed on the profit from the sale of an asset, and is calculated using the difference between the sale price and the original value of the asset. In the startup context, we typically refer to the long-term capital gains tax, which is a capital gains tax imposed on the profits of a sale of assets held more than one year. Short-term capital gains tax applies to assets held less than one year.
